Top Of The World

Top Of The World is a song I recorded with two of my best friends Chris and Martin in 93. Chris had a little recording studio in the basement, with a four-track and an Alesis Midiverb.

We dug out the original tapes in 2004 to mix an instrumental version of this song to be used as playback for Chris' and Debbie's wedding. Since then I had been wanting to restore these recordings and remix them digitally.

For now I just took the instrumental version and added the original vocal tracks and the sax solo. When I was almost finished I found the original tracks with a stereo mix of all synths, bass, and drums, and seperate tracks of the guitars and a tambourine. So I will be able to clean up the mix much more sometime in the near future.

Dream A Little Dream

A freezing winter day 94/95. It snowed so much, I hardly made it to the studio. My assistant engineer and I decided to wait for the two bands we had booked for that day in the cafe across the studio. I don't remember how long we waited, but neither of the bands ever showed up - they were stuck in the snow somewhere.

So I had another cup of Melange and suddenly this song popped up in my head. It was all there, the music, the words, everything. I asked the waitress for a pen and wrote down the words on a napkin as fast as I could. About ten minutes later we got up and left for the studio.

We recorded it in one take. I loved that old piano they had in that studio. It was a little bit out of tune, the mechanics were faulty, but it had soul. We positioned the mics so you can hear my fingers tapping on the keys a bit. We actually did a few more takes, because my vocals were way flat here and there, but I didn't like any of them. They just sounded to rehearsed, I don't know. Sometimes less perfect is more beautiful.

Hidden Xtasy

The song Hidden Xtasy was an attempt to bring a 7/8 groove to a broader audience by wrapping it with nice pop sounds and easy vocals. It actually got played quite a bit on national radio when it was released sometime in the 1990s.

It features Sia on vocals, recorded by Wolfgang Czeland at Sheeptrack Productions. All instruments performed and recorded by Randy A. at adamstudios. Music written by Randy A. Lyrics written by Sia.
